Movie Review Monday: Catch Me If You Can

Catch Me If You Can is a Spielberg film that is a surprisingly light hearted comedy/adventure about 17 year old Frank Abagnale Jr. who not only impersonates teachers, airline pilots, doctors, and lawyers but cons more than 4 million dollars in process. Leonardo DiCaprio turns out a clever and witty performance as Frank Jr. His opposition is the sometimes dour FBI agent, Carl Hanratty, played by Tom Hanks. This whole film takes place in the golden age of flight in American, the friendly skies of Pan American Airways, the 1960's. The fashion is mostly preppy, middle to upper class and chock full of 60s goodness.

To get through an airway crowded with FBI agents, Frank ends up at a ladies school/college and picks up a bevy of new flight attendants to be his distractions. These suits are the iconic Pan Am blue, and were made to look exactly like the uniforms of the period. Spot on!

Frank poses as a student doing a report on Pan Am to learn all he can before posing as a pilot. This is the high Main Line prep look for the 1960s.
Agent Hanratty, looking very FBI in his thin tie, goes to visit Frank's mother (who is now remarried). She is rocking a bit older hairstyle here, but very fitting for a woman of her age and status.
Frank's constant need to impress his father Frank Sr. drives him to create more and more elaborate personas.
Check out these great Tortoise shell sun glasses.
Jennifer Garner makes a cameo as a 60's call girl. This is a behind the scenes shot. Her hair is on point for the mid to late 60s.
My favorite outfit by far in this film is Frank's white and orange mod sweater.

I mean look at this thing!
Posing as Dr. Conners, Frank falls for one of the young night nurses, Brenda (played by Amy Adams).

If you haven't caught this film yet you need to (it's score on Rotten Tomatoes is 96%)! It is a fun, fast, and touching film about a young man's struggle to have all the things in life he feels like he should. Based in part on a true story the real Frank Abagnale Jr. actually loved the film and how it portrayed him.
